So, tell me, what do you know about families? What they actually are? First of all, something very important to know is that every person, every single person has OR had a family. The family is actually an organization of related people where basic needs are met and also where they learn their first values and beliefs. Family is a non-material culture element because it is an idea of people related by children, a common ancestor, marriage or blood. Still don’t get what a family really is right? A family could just be many friends with really strong feelings for each other. It could also be related people that might just get together sometimes, but mostly it is a family of related people like children, their parents, their uncles, their aunts, their cousins and sometimes a friend or two. Values and beliefs are mostly learned within related families. Values and beliefs are like a person’s religion, what they believe in. For example, somebody’s parents or the whole family are catholic and they teach the children all about it, their beliefs and anything related to it. This has something to do with the parents in Brazilian families. Brazil has the most Christians in the world. This means that most of the families are Christian, and Brazilians are very dedicated to their religion. This sometimes takes up families’ time to pray, go to the church and other things. Fathers are bit more powerful than mothers with the religion and traditional roles involving religion.

I’ll help you understand about families in general, parents and children in Brazil. First, I’ll tell you about the families in Brazil. All families have relationships. Some of those relationships are by blood with a common ancestor among people. Blood relationships are people who along the years got separated into two different families but still have the same blood. Ancestor relationships are for example: someone gets married once and has a child or many children, then that person leaves that family and marries someone else and has children with them. Then, the two families grow differently but they still have that one common ancestor. Families in Brazil, and Brazilians, give high importance to families or to close friends. Usually, Brazilian families have a wide circle of uncles, aunts and cousins.

After that, parents in Brazil play an important role in their families. Mothers for example, are usually the head of their home, the “Leader”. She is responsible for taking care of the house, the children, make the food and in general, help anyone or anything in the house. Mothers most of the time do not work because they have to stay home and take care of everything. Fathers are usually the ones who leave and work because the women stays at home helping the house but someone has to work, to raise everyone in the house and help. Sometimes all of this is causes too much stress because the mother never helps the father, the father is never home and sometimes they separate or divorce. That is why in Brazil separation or divorce is very common.

Finally there are the children in the family. To start talking about children, I’ll give my own opinion about them in a family. I think that children sometimes are the ones to connect two people, two families, and two form strong connections. In Brazil, many sometimes adopt children from other families or marriages. Also, it is common for families in Brazil to have 5 to 7 children and some may have even 15 children. Now you should know a bit more about general Brazilian families, parents and children in Brazil, now that I helped you understand them.
